Learning product for compliance
and ethics training

I have been part of this product enhancement after customer feedback.

What is the product's goal?

The goal of the product is to train employees from various industries on compliance laws and ethics. It’s designed to effectively engage a diverse workforce—spanning different demographics, cognitive styles, education levels, and occupational roles to make learning accessible to all.

What is the problem?

After receiving data from the implementation team, it was evident that user dropout rates were high. User research, including surveys, revealed several key issues:

  • Some employees experienced high cognitive load, making the content time-consuming to process

  • Content was not personalised or relevant to specific job roles

  • Lengthy modules caused fatigue and reduced retention

  • Low interactivity led to user boredom

  • Lack of mobile optimisation made it difficult for on-the-go access

  • Outdated visual design reduced engagement

How can we increase the effectiveness?

My manager aimed to improve the product's effectiveness—but what does that mean?

Using my psychology background, I broke the problem statement into three key components:

  • Cognitive: Simplify by dividing lengthy modules into shorter segments, translating abstract ideas into concrete examples, and using clear, straightforward language.

  • Visual: Incorporate enhanced visuals that directly support and reinforce the concepts.

  • Motor: Increase interactivity by introducing a variety of interactive page types to engage users more effectively.

Accessibility: To ensure that all users could benefit from the modules, accessibility QA was implemented.

Did the product change work?

To test this we conducted a simple A/B test in a couple of industries with diverse workforce. One half of the group was given old lengthy module while the other half was introduced to the new enhanced and shorter version of it. To our surprise the product's effectiveness went high by 30%.

We developed standardized module templates to include in the library offerings for new clients.
